Saratoga Porches
The old Victorian Porches of Saratoga Springs are true local treasures. Beautiful spaces for resting or revelry, you can't help imagine the grandeur of the past when you pass them by. The elegant porch of our home, Circular Manor, is no exception ... architecturally impressive, wrapping around the left side of our house, inviting people to sit and stay for a few. Treat yourself to a stroll around Saratoga Springs and find your favorite!
Morning at the 3rd Hole in Saratoga State Park
A few early mornings each week, I head to my favorite quiet place in Saratoga: the bench overlooking the 3rd hole of the golf course in Saratoga State Park. With so much beauty along the way and the quiet peace of my destination, I am reminded of how lucky we are to have 2,400 acres of trees, streams, grass and natural surprises right in the middle of Saratoga!
Another Great Lake in Upstate NY
Besides Lake George, Lake Placid, Mirror Lake and Great Sacandaga Lake, there are so many other "great" lakes, lesser known but pristine and relatively private. One of my favorites is Hunt Lake in Corinth. My husband and I have been renovating a small family camp little by little over the past two years and are now enjoying the serenity and natural beauty of this dreamy retreat as much as we love the excitement of Saratoga Springs. Just differently. I now talk up the benefits of these shy smaller lakes to anyone who will listen!
What's Happening at Universal Preservation Hall
Need another reason to love Saratoga Springs? Look no further than Universal Preservation Hall. Once considered for demolition, this 1871 Victorian Gothic cathedral is now an exquisite art and cultural center right in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs following 10 years of thoughtful reinvention and determined fundraising.
I had the pleasure of serving on the Board of UPH for five years as the building neared completion. I am grateful everyday for UPH Director Teddy Foster who fought tirelessly for the Hall's completion and continues to guide its preservation and programming. Such a cultural gem in a town of many magical surprises.
Open! Juniper Restaurant in Greenwich, NY
My friend Michele Morris has done it again! Her newest restaurant, Juniper, brings her fresh and delicious creations to historic downtown Greenwich, NY. Just 20 minutes from Saratoga, scrumptious salads and sandwiches, masterful entrees and desserts await you in her charming reimagined Main Street location. I recommend the Melty Baked Fontina, Juniper Salad, and Sugared beignets. And a glass of wine!
